Running Down Sand King

Sand King: The Best Sand Hill on Lake Powell

Sand King is one of my favorite spots on Lake Powell! Situated close to both the Wahweap and State Line boat ramps, reaching it by boat or kayak is easy, making it an ideal destination for a day of adventure. The highlight of this spot is its namesake: a towering sand hill that dominates the canyon. The hike to the summit can be challenging, but the descent is worth it. The soft sand and steep incline make for a thrilling run, jump, or flip down to the bottom. And if that weren’t enough, the fishing around Sand King is usually good too.

Walking across Chaol Falls

Chaol Falls: A Journey to the End of Navajo Canyon, Lake Powell

Chaol Falls is an awesome off-the-beaten-path hike at the end of Navajo Canyon in Lake Powell. Navajo Canyon is the longest side canyon on Lake Powell that is not a river arm.  Simply experiencing Navajo Canyon is spectacular, and hiking to Chaol Falls makes it extra special. In addition to the spectacular views, we saw waterfalls, wild horses, and petroglyphs.

Navajo Bridge

Navajo Bridge: A Historic Stop Along the Colorado River

Navajo Bridge is a must-see historic stop along the Colorado River on your way to Lee’s Ferry, Jacob’s Lake, or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  The views are incredible, and the chances of seeing a California Condor are high.  In addition to the sights, the bridge is also a great place to buy authentic Native American souvenirs such as jewelry and pottery.
