Running Down Sand King

Sand King: The Best Sand Hill on Lake Powell

Sand King is one of my favorite spots on Lake Powell! Situated close to both the Wahweap and State Line boat ramps, reaching it by boat or kayak is easy, making it an ideal destination for a day of adventure. The highlight of this spot is its namesake: a towering sand hill that dominates the canyon. The hike to the summit can be challenging, but the descent is worth it. The soft sand and steep incline make for a thrilling run, jump, or flip down to the bottom. And if that weren’t enough, the fishing around Sand King is usually good too.

Old Paria: A Place So Beautiful It Became A Famous Western Movie Set

Paria, a town established in 1869, had to face frequent flooding and droughts in the 1920s, which eventually led to its abandonment. However, Paria’s story didn’t end there. Its historic structures and beautiful desert scenery made it a popular location for Western films, including Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales.
