Upper Falls is a short but steep waterfall hike located just up the road from the iconic Bridal Veil Falls. I love this trail because it offers stunning canyon views without the crowds. While the hike is only about half a mile each way, don’t be fooled, it climbs straight up and will definitely get your heart pumping.

Getting There
- From Utah County or I‑15: Head east on Provo Canyon Road (UT‑189).
- About 2.5 miles past Bridal Veil Falls, follow the sign and turn right onto the Upper Falls Park lot.
- Park in the lot, cross the pedestrian bridge, and look for the trailhead behind the old concrete structure.
Trail Description

From the Upper Falls Park parking lot, begin by crossing the newly built pedestrian bridge that spans the Provo River. Once across, follow the path toward the old concrete structure covered in graffiti—it’s hard to miss and serves as an unofficial landmark. The trail begins directly behind this building.
From there, it’s a steady uphill climb. The trail is short but steep, heading straight up the mountainside through scrub oak and rocky terrain. Although the ascent is quick, it can be slippery in places, so take your time and watch your footing. After about 15–20 minutes, you’ll be rewarded with a close-up view of Upper Falls cascading down a narrow rock face.
What Makes Upper Falls Special

- Secluded Experience – Unlike nearby Bridal Veil Falls, Upper Falls sees far fewer visitors.
- Scenic Views – Enjoy canyon panoramas, glimpses of Mt. Timpanogos, and the serene rush of Provo River beside the trail.
- Short & Sweet – The compact trail is perfect for a quick nature break or a scenic stroll that doesn’t eat your day.
